Zacapa Carajillo

A carajillo is a traditional coffee cocktail. Learn how to make our Zacapa versions- both classic and smoked.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Zacapa No. 23 Rum

  • 0.5 oz Vanilla Simple Syrup* 

  • 3 oz Hot Coffee

  • Vanilla Bean or Cinnamon Stick, for smoke


*Vanilla Simple Syrup (Can substitute with Simple Syrup)

  • 1 cup Water

  • 1 cup Sugar

  • 1 tbsp Pure Vanilla Extract

Preparation

CLASSIC CARAJILLO

  1. Combine Zacapa, vanilla simple syrup and hot coffee to a rocks glass.

  2. Stir to combine and serve warm.


SMOKED CARAJILLO

  1. Using a match, light the end of a vanilla bean or cinnamon stick until it begins to smoke.

  2. Drop into a separate glass, and wait until the vessel fills with smoke, covering the top if necessary.

  3. Add the remaining ingredients to the smoke-filled glass.

  4. Let the mixture sit for a minute or two until fully infused with smoke.

  5. Pour mixture into a rocks glass and serve warm.

Instructions

  1. Combine water and sugar in a saucepan over medium-high heat.

  2. Bring to a boil and stir until all sugar has dissolved.

  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract. Stir to combine.

  4. Allow simple syrup to cool before use and store in the fridge.
